Poikiloderma of Civatte is a skin condition commonly seen in women and men as they age. This skin condition usually manifests as a combination of hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation and an increase of dilated blood vessels, leading to discoloured skin in the neck and chest region
Our laser technology breaks down pigmentation within the deeper layers of the skin. Once broken down into small particles, the particles are reabsorbed back into the bloodstream and eliminated. In addition to breaking down skin pigmentation, the surrounding dilated blood vessels are treated to minimise the redness associated with this skin condition.
Skin needling is recommended as a complementary treatment performed immediately after your laser treatment. Skin needling causes light trauma to the skin, which facilitates the production of cells in the treated area. This rejuvenates your decolletage by improving the texture and elasticity of your skin.
When pigmentation is located within the deeper layers of the skin, several treatments are required, depending on the reduction in skin pigmentation and redness seen following each treatment.
To ensure that you are as comfortable as possible, a topical anaesthetic is applied to the treated areas one hour before your treatment.
Following treatment, your decolletage will be red; however, this will reduce in the coming days. Residual skin blistering and scabbing can occur where blood vessels and sunspots have been lasered. The skin blisters and scabbing will continue to heal within the weeks following treatment. You can wear makeup to conceal the treated area during this time, and recommendations will be provided regarding the best types of makeup to be used.
Although the potential risks are extremely uncommon, one or more of the following may occur:
As part of your post-treatment care plan, you will be provided with verbal and written post-treatment instructions.
